Mission 2009/2010

In the upcoming TABS field season, the research teams will aim to complete the sampling and surveying at study sites that were not accessible in the previous season, continue to monitor and maintain experiments setup in the previous seasons, and setup new experiments to build on the knowledge gained from the TABS project so far.

This year’s field season will last approximately 10 weeks, starting with the first TABS members arriving in Antarctica in late November and lasting until the final members depart from Antarctica in late January. This field season will allow TABS researchers to setup experiments that monitor how biological activities in the Dry Valley soils change over the course of the season. By using data collected in the last year, based on the work of the previous field season, researchers can complete these activity studies at sites that will be most useful for helping to increase understanding of the biology in the Dry Valleys ecosystem.

The team looks forward to another exciting, safe, and successful field season. Stay tuned as we update their progress.
